IED goes off at left alliance’s publicity office
Siraha/Nawalparasi, Nov 24
A bomb went off at the left alliance’s election publicity office in Mirchaiya, Siraha, today.
According to SP Shekhar Koirala at Siraha District Police Office, the explosion occurred at about 4:00 pm. “Looking at the nature of the incident, it seems that the act was meant to simply create terror,” he said, adding that the office on the first floor of local Pradip Sah’s house had suffered minor damage. Police found pamphlets of Janatatrik Tarai Liberation Forum-Revolutionary from the incident site.
Similarly, a bomb was found in Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal’s parliamentary candidate from Siraha-2 Shatrughan Prasad Singh Koiri’s vehicle during an election campaign in Dhangadhi Municipality-7 this evening. “We had left the vehicle on the roadside and were canvassing voters. When our men went back to bring pamphlets from the vehicle, they saw something in a polyethylene bag from which a wire was extending out,” he said. A Nepal Army bomb disposal team defused the bomb later.
Elsewhere, an improvised explosive device was also found in the Nepali Congress’s Dukauli-based election publicity office in Nawalpur’s Devachuli Municipality-2 today. NC’s General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala is contesting from this constituency. The bomb was defused by a Nepal Army bomb disposal team.
After spotting a pressure cooker linked with a wire outside the office, the landlord had informed the party and police about the suspicious objects.
