INARUWA: Inaruwa Municipality Mayor Rajan Mahato has levelled charges on the elected representatives of the opposition parties of not allowing him to undertake development works. Mayor Mahato made the accusation at an interactive programme with the journalists on Thursday in Inaruwa , thei district headquarters. The mayor said the elected representatives of the opposition parties were trying to keep him as a 'ceremonial head' despite the fact that he was also a people's representative. He added that he was unable to proceed with the works as expected and unable to gain progress. Mahato accused the 'friends from the opposition parties' of trying to turn him into a pendulum through the force of majority in the 'game of majority'. The mayor noted that the elected representatives must promote a nature of work execution which remains above the partisan interests. He further charged that the elected representatives from the opposition parties were creating hurdles through their 'working style'. Although the mayor did not mention by name any political parties, his references were clearly directed at the CPN-UML — the second largest party — which holds the majority in the municipality. The party holds the sway at the municipality's executive council and the town committee. Renewing his stress on the fact that he is not a 'ceremonial king' rather a representative elected with the people's vote, the mayor warned that he would not maintain a pervasive status as a mere 'monitoring authority'. He insisted on his ability to bring about a vision and draw donors, and added his views were not given any respect.
