Life in parts of Saptari has been adversely affected due to rainfall that has continued for the past two days. While houses have been swamped by rainwater, roads are waterlogged and damaged.

In Kochabakhari, of Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality, Saptari, over a dozen houses have been inundated by rainwater that has not found any outlet due to lack of proper drainage system, according to local Sifait Marik. As learnt, attempts are under way to drain the accumulated rainwater to save the inundated houses. Similarly, the local health post in-charge Rajababu Mehata said health services at the health facility were affected after rainwater entered the building housing the health post. Likewise, rainwater has affected part of local Shree Rastriya Preliminary School and also washed away a section of the road in the ward.

In Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality, movement of people and vehicles have been affected after part of the road near Rajbiraj Customs Office was washed away by floods in the local Jita Khola. Around 50 metres section was washed away in Ward N0 8.

Likewise, around 30-metre stretch of Koiladi-Barsain road in Ward No 5 of the same local level was also swept away by floods, leaving the road inoperable for the time being, according to Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality Disaster Management Officer Rajesh Jha. Incessant rainfall has also pushed the water level in Khando, Mahuli, Saptakoshi, Triyuga, Jita, Balan, Sundari, Khadak, Bhaluwahi and other rivers. Local administration has said it has stepped up monitoring in risky areas.
