Rautahat, January 12

Locals have been facing problems after an under-construction bridge could not be completed within the stipulated time in Rautahat.

The bridge that connects Gajura and Katahariya municipalities of Rautahat has been left incomplete for the past four years. Locals have been facing problems commuting at Khatbahiya Katahariya of Gajura Municipality. People have been compelled to cover a distance of two kilometres on foot to reach their destination.

The locals have constructed a temporary bamboo bridge to commute. A local, Pralhad Sah said they were compelled to reach their destination walking for more than two kilometres.

The villagers have complained that the bridge could not come into operation for a long time due to negligence on the part of the contractor. They said the contractors were yet to complete the bridge even though 27 months had already passed.

The then Physical and Planning Minister Raghubir Mahashet had laid the foundation stone in 2020 to construct the bridge within three months. Contractor Aash Mohammad of Maulapur Municipality has completed 40 per cent of the construction work till date.
