Indefinite general strike called in Dang

Residents in Dang district have called an indefinite general strike demanding that Dang be declared the capital of Province 5.

The Provincial Capital Stakeholder Committee meeting with participation of Dang Chamber of Commerce and Industry held in Ghorai today decided to call district bandh effective from tomorrow.

Locals in the district protested after the government did not announce Dang as the province’s capital. The district was already proposed as capital of the province. Member Secretary of Provincial Capital Stakeholder Committee Sabin Priyasan said that a pressure rally would be organised along with the general strike in Dang from 8:00 am tomorrow. “Dang should be announced the provincial capital as it has sufficient infrastructure and also lies in the centre of the province,” he added.

Priyasan also the Chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists Dang Chapter added that it was the primary stage of protest and they were ready for any other protests to et heir demand fulfilled.

The locals in Dang started the protest against some conspiracy to prevent the announcement of Dang as the provincial capital. The locals demonstrated in district headquarters Ghorai, Tulsipur and Lamahi, among other places today.
