India ready to convert railways into broad gauge

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shyam Saran has said that the government of India is ready to assist in converting Janakpurdham-Jayanagar railway line into broad gauge.

Indian envoy Saran showed concern over the extension of the railway line in Janakpurdham while talking to this daily today. He assured that his government was ready to help in extending Janakpur-Jayanagar railway line up to Bardibas of Mahotari district. He also disclosed that the government of India has already showed theoretical support to convert the railway line into broad gauge. He said that once the agreement between the two countries takes place, further activities will be started in this regard.

In fact, the government of India is anytime ready to work for the development of the Terai region, Saran said. He said that once the railway line will be converted into broad gauge, it will be useful for India as well. After the conversion, the distance will reamain 64 kilometres only.

Meanwhile, leader of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Bimlendra Nidhi has welcomed the initiation on the part of the Indian government. Replying to questions over the arrest of Maoist leader Matrika Prasad Yadav, Sharan said that the terrorist may come from any community, his country can never have sympathy.
