Indian Army Chief arrives to receive honorary title of Nepal Army

KATHMANDU: The chief of Indian Army, General Bipin Rawat, arrived here in Kathmandu to receive the honorary general title of Nepal Army.

President Bidya Bhandari will confer the title on Gen Rawat amidst a ceremony at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday, the Nepal Army said in a statement.

It’s a long-held tradition between the two armies to confer the title of honorary general to each other’s army chiefs.

Gen Rawat was received by Nepal Army's Lt Gen Purna Chandra Thapa at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

During his Kathmandu stay, the Indian Army chief will call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Defence Minister Bal Krishna Khand separately.

Also, Gen Rawat will hold a meeting with his Nepali counterpart Gen Rajendra Chhetri, who invited him for the official visit.

During his visit, the Nepal Army said, Gen Rawat will visit some touristic and religious sites besides the Nepal Army's Mustang-based High Altitude School (Mountain Warfare) and the Indian Army’s pension paying camps in Pokhara.
