Indian army chief arrives

KATHMANDU: India’s Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat arrived in Kathmandu on Monday to attend the Army Day function, which coincides with the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the Nepali Army.

The Army Day is being marked on Tuesday. Gen Rawat, who is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff Gen Rajendra Chhetri, will visit Muktinath temple in Mustang on Tuesday morning, depending on weather.

After returning from Muktinath, Gen Rawat will lay a wreath at the Army Memorial in Chhauni. He will then witness a guard of honour at the Nepali Army headquarters, following which he will meet Gen Chhetri.

In the evening, he will attend the army’s Mahashivaratri programme as a guest of honour. On Wednesday, Gen Rawat will visit Pashupatinath temple before meeting President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and the prime minister.

He will return to New Delhi on Wednesday.
