Indian assistance of Rs 53.7 million for Syangja

KATHMANDU: Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood today visited Syangja district and handed over newly constructed buildings. He also laid the foundation stone of a new school building to be constructed with assistance of the Government of India under the India-Nepal Cooperation Programme, stated a press release issued by the embassy here.

The newly constructed buildings he handed over are Galyang Multiple Campus (GMC), Graho Ghyaling Primary Health Centre and Shree Janata Secondary School (SJSC), Birgha.

In his address at these functions, Sood underlined the importance of educational infrastructure for Nepal's overall development and laid emphasis on the development of children and youth of Nepal as the future citizens of the nation.

He noted that a large number of projects in the sectors of education, health and community development being implemented under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme are reflective of the long lasting friendship between the two countries and manifest the determination of the Government and the people of India to walk together with the people of Nepal towards peace and development.

Currently, under the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, over 370 projects are being realised in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over Rs 5600 crores.

The new building of GMC has been constructed with GOI's assistance of Rs.1.77 Crores. The new building will provide much needed classroom space to over 450 students of which about half are girls and help the campus to accommodate the ever increasing number of students.

Graho Ghyaling Primary Health Centre was established 20 years ago as health post and was later upgraded to a Primary Health Centre. The Health Centre is providing 24 hours emergency, maternity and general medical services to the people of Walling Municipality. The new OPD building of the Centre constructed with GOI assistance of Rs 35 lakhs will assist the health centre to overcome the existing space constraints and enhance the quality and coverage of its medical care. The creation of new building will provide better facilities to the patients and allow the Primary Health Centre to function in a better and effective manner.

SJSC presently holds classes in an old and dilapidated building. In order to upgrade physical infrastructure of the school, Government of India will provide assistance of Rs 3.25 crores for construction of new three storied building, road access, compound wall, soak pit, septic tank, furniture, 15 computer and 2 printers. The new infrastructure will cater to the educational needs of over 800 students, half of whom are girls.
