India's role in change of govt 'hyped': Bhattarai

TULASIPUR: Naya Shakti Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai said on Monday that India's role in the government change in Nepal has been unnecessarily hyped.

Speaking at an interaction organised by the Reporters' Club Dang chapter, Bhattarai said it was wrong to say there was India's involvement every time government changes in Nepal.

According to him, the Nepali parties themselves should resolve the internal issues while foreign intervention was unacceptable.

He argued that the government changes in Nepal due to weaknesses on the part of political parties and the system of governance.

The former prime minister was of the opinion that the country would not witness political stability unless it gets a directly elected president and fully proportional parliament.

Saying Tarai-Madhes region gets inundated every year due to construction of dam by the Indian side, Bhattarai pointed out that dialogue with India to resolve the issue is yet to happen.

Instead of blame game, it is necessary to hold dialogue with India to resolve the issue, he added.
