KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 10
International Human Rights Day is being observed around the world today.
Various programs are being organized across the country to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. This declaration enshrines the inalienable rights that every human being is entitled to, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.
The theme for 2024 is 'Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now'.
"Human rights are currently under assault, and this year's theme serves as a reminder that human rights are about shaping the future - and that work must begin immediately. We must stand up for all rights - always," UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement.
As a member state of the United Nations, Nepal has been marking International Human Rights Day each year, reaffirming its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights for all.
