International skiing competition in Mustang concludes

KATHMANDU: An international skiing competition has concluded in Muktinath, Mustang on last week of December in 2017. The competition was organised by Himalayan Ski Trek with a view to promote mountain tourism.

Since 2012, Himalayan Ski Trek has been organizing winter mountain festival annually. Moreover, HST has also organised skiing training in Muktinath, Gosaikunda and Dhaulagiri regions.

“Although Nepal is a mountainous country with huge potential ski mountaineering in Nepal is still in a nascent stage ,” the company said in a statement, “Due to the lack of education and promotion such opportunities in Nepal have remained unexplored.”

According to Chairperson of HST, Krishna Thapa, more than 300 Nepali youths have been directly benefited till date and the numbers are increasing every year.

Earlier in the last week of December, the organisation successfully conducted 6th winter mountain ski festival at the heart of Annapurna Region, Muktinath with 60 Nepali and half a dozen foreign participants.
