Kathmandu, December 13

An international workshop on ‘Transport and Tourism’ has started here from today.

Experts and stakeholders related to transportation and tourism sectors from five countries are participating in the event, said Ashish Gajurel, coordinator of the event.

As per him, experts and representatives from different organisations from China, India, America, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are participating in the event. Along with that, tourism entrepreneurs from all seven provinces of the country and representatives from Visit Nepal Year (VNY) 2020 secretariat are also taking part in the event.

The two-day workshop has been divided into four chapters — drive tourism initiatives,

tourism transport safety, investment opportunities in Nepal and promotion of VNY campaign. “The event will be focused on dispelling the rumour that the country’s transportation sector and roads are not tourism-friendly,” Gajurel said. “Rather it will help to convey a message that the transportation sector of the country is improving.”

As per Gajurel, the event will also help to identify how transportation sector can be further improved for boosting tourism.

On day one, discussions related to drive tourism initiatives and tourism transport safety were conducted. In drive tourism, the visitors themselves drive to various destinations either by hiring or in their private vehicles.

On the second day, investment opportunities in Nepal and promotion of VNY campaign will be conducted wherein tourism entrepreneurs from VNY secretariat will give a presentation regarding the overall campaign. Likewise, tourism entrepreneurs from seven provinces will be making a presentation on tourist destinations, possibilities of drive tourism and investment in tourism in their respective provinces.

The event is being organised by Nepal Automobiles Association Foundation in collaboration with Belt and Road International Transport Alliance - China and in association with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Climbing Sports Association. The two-day event is being organised with an aim to contribute to the promotion of Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. The major objective of the event is to enhance the transportation services for positive impact of VNY campaign for sustainable development of tourism.
