KATHMANDU, MAY 16

B-Corp certified travel company Intrepid Travel has appointed Yalamber Rai as the new Country General Manager for Intrepid DMC Nepal, effective April 1.

Rai, who brings over 15 years of experience in the adventure travel industry, has been with Intrepid for the past three years, most recently serving as Operations Manager. In that role, he was instrumental in strengthening safety protocols, enhancing operational systems, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture, according to the press release issued by the Intrepid Travel.

His promotion follows the appointment of Ashish Verma as Regional General Manager for North and South Asia, a region that includes Nepal, India, and China.

"Yalamber's commitment to responsible travel, operational excellence and people-first leadership makes him the ideal appointee to guide our Nepal operations forward," said Verma.

As General Manager, Rai will lead a team of 59 and oversee the delivery of hundreds of trips annually. In 2024 alone, Intrepid welcomed more than 3,500 travellers to Nepal, the release further stated.

"I'm incredibly proud to step into this role and continue building on our strong foundations in Nepal, delivering meaningful travel experiences that support our communities and showcase the best of this country," Rai said.

Rai's appointment is aligned with Intrepid's broader 2030 strategy to serve over 600,000 travellers per year, with Asia playing a central role in scaling purpose-led travel, the release noted.

Intrepid DMC Nepal was recognised in 2024 as the country's top foreign currency earner among trekking agencies, highlighting its contribution to Nepal's economy and its growing presence in the tourism sector.

With more than 35 offices worldwide-including 10 in Asia-Intrepid operates 28 destination management companies globally, running the majority of its own trips and providing tailored itineraries for other major travel brands. The company remains committed to sustainable tourism and connecting travellers with local communities, the company added.
