Investigation into chimney blast begins

Investigation into the chimney blast at New Jay Nepal Brick Kiln in Itahari sub-metropolitan city, which claimed eight lives on Monday, began today.

Chimney of the brick kiln operated by Binod Agrawal had developed cracks in the earthquake of April 25. But Agrawal had resumed operation of the brick kiln after minor repairs.

The District Administration Office, Sunsari formed an investigation panel after brick kiln workers demanded action against the owner, saying the incident occurred due to his negligence.

The investigation panel is headed by administrative officer Dina Nath Lamsal.

The panel visited the incident site and inquired about the incident with the victims, their families and eyewitness. Probe team coordinator Lamsal said they would submit the report of their investigation to Chief District Officer Rabi Lal Pantha within a week.

Itahari sub-metropolitan city announced cash relief of Rs 2,500 each to the family of the deceased. Many of the kiln workers are from Bengal and Bihar.
