Irate villagers ransack Maoist party offices

Sindhupalchowk, October 2:

Irate locals today vandalised the offices of the Maoist’s district committee and it’s sister organisation Young Communist League (YCL) at the Malamchi village of Sindhupalchowk district after a group of Maoist cadres beat up former Nepali Army personnel, Man Bahadur Tamang.

Tamang, a resident of Mahankal VDC -8 of the district, was seriously injured in a Maoist attack in the morning, Hundreds of locals, who took to the streets, chanted slogans against the Maoists and vandalised offices to protest against the Maoist high-handedness.

Locals who were rushing injured Tamang to hospital went on the rampage while they arrived at Melamchi, the Sindhupalchowk district police office said. Locals torched all the documents of YCL’s regional office, police added. Police gave shelter to Maoist area in-charge Chandra Bahadur Thapa after the incident.

Three cadres, including YCL area in-charge Subhas, were arrested on charge of beating up Tamang, police said.

Maoist district in-charge accused the police forces for keeping mum on the incident. He also blamed that the irate group members were the cadres of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

RPP Area No 3 chairman Uday Sapkota refuted the Maoists’ allegations, but admitted that injured Tamang was affiliated with the party.
