Irregularities rife in relief distribution

Sindhulimadhi, November 7

Irregularities have been reported in relief distribution initiated by various social organisations to the earthquake victims in Sindhuli.

The fact came to light during a monitoring by National Commission for Human Rights Management Committee in the district. The team met with Chief District Officer Dipakraj Nepal of Sindhuli at his office and urged him to stop the irregularities.

“During monitoring, we found that only victims with political connections have been getting priority. This is unfair and unfortunate,” said Krishnahari Ghimire, member of the monitoring team.

NHRC had formed the team to monitor relief distribution following complaints of irregularities. “Relief and Cooperation Nepal is constructing houses for the quake victims in Bhimeshwor and Bhuwaneshwori VDCs, but most of the houses are being built for victims with political connections,” said Ghimire.

CDO Nepal pledged action against organisations involved in irregularities. “We are monitoring the relief distribution process and are committed to taking action against such persons or organisations,” he said.
