Irrigation office chief held with bribe

Bhojpur, July 15

A team deployed from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today arrested Chief of Irrigation Development Division Office Engineer Mohanbabu Yadav with a bribe of Rs 180,000 in Bhojpur.

The anti-graft team deployed from the CIAA Regional Office, Itahari, caught Engineer Yadav from a hotel near his office while taking the bribe money from a service seeker at 12:00pm, Bhojpur Chief District Officer Nurhari Khatiwada said. The CDO added Yadav was taken to Itahari for further investigation.

CIAA Spokesperson Pradip Kumar Koirala said Yadav had demanded money for approving the running bill of Chhange Khola Irrigation Project at Boya of Shadananda Municipality in Bhojpur. “The team had reached the hotel on the basis of a tip-off and caught Yadav with the bribe money,” Koirala stated.The project is estimated to cost Rs 9.8 million. A deal was signed to spend Rs 1.8 million this year.

Project Consumer and Nepali Congress Bhojpur Secretary Chakra Bahadur Karki said the CIAA’s support was sought after Yadav delayed the settlement of transaction on the irrigation project of Bhojpur Municiplaity-10.
