Israeli missing in Mardi Mountain region near Pokhara

KATHMANDU: Police, locals and Israeli rescuers here have continued the search for a missing Israeli tourist, Amit Reichman, who went missing around here, since October 16.

The 42-year-old man has reportedly disappeared while he was hiking alone near the Mardi base camp in the Mardi Mountain region, according to a Rastriya Samachar Samiti report dispatched from Pokhara.

Police have been launching the search effort for the Israeli from the moment his whereabouts were unknown, said Officiating spokesperson at the Kaski District Police Office, Ganesh Bam.

Reichman was last seen October 16 near the Fishtail Guest House at the Mardi High Camp, according to a news report on The Times of Israel. "He left for a short hike, taking only a small bag, and leaving all of his luggage at the guest house."

Meanwhile, a rescue team left Israel for Nepal on Friday to intensify the search, according to the Jerusalem Online, a local news portal in the Israeli capital.

"The search team members have some information about Reichman’s whereabouts before he disappeared and they hope that they will find the missing Israeli tourist alive," the report said.

The missing man was "very experienced in treks and hikes,” the report said, quoting Hilik Magnus, founder of Magnus International Search and Rescue.

“As long as he is not injured or is not in distress, there is enough water and the weather conditions are survivable,” he added.

Reichman, a father of two, is an engineer at Israel Aerospace Industries, according to The Times of Israel.
