Highway opens

The Itahari-Biratnagar Highway that was obstructed from yesterday due to protest over the murder of Fida Hussein, 50, has opened from today following an agreement between the government authority and the deceased’s family and the struggle committee concerned.

Following Hussein’s murder yesterday morning, locals of Duhabi had launched a protest by keeping the body on the road from the afternoon. They had put forward a five-point demand including the resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.

Sunsari Chief District Officer Prem Prakas Upreti said there had been an agreement to the effect that the home ministry will get the proposal of declaring Hussein a martyr and provide Rs 1 million in compensation from the Council of Ministers. It was agreed to manage a job for Hussein’s son in Nepal Electricity Authority.
