Phidim, January 20 :

Bharat Poudel, an inmate of Panchthar district jail, went on fast-unto-death today to protest delay in court proceedings in his case.

A murder case involving Poudel is pending in the Panchthar district court for the past five years. The police had filed a case at the district court charging him with killing four police personnel during an attack on the police post at Gopetar in Panchthar district on January 23, 2002. He was imprisoned on March 17, 2002.

“I went on fast-unto-death in June as well but Shankar Lal Chaudhari, the eastern regional administrator, had assured me that he would look into the matter. However, nothing has been done till now,” he lamented.

He said he would continue his strike until he was set free.
