Jailor jailed for a day

Rautahat, June 12 :

Prisoners of conscience held at the District Prison, Gaur, today took the assistant jailor of the prison, Hridaya Narayan Shah, in control the whole day. Shah was freed in the evening in presence of SP Bishwa Raj Singh Shahi, assistant chief district officer Hom Prasad Adhikari and journalist Prabhat Kumar Jha.

The jail administration said the prisoners took Shah in control as he entered a cell to discuss about the facilities being provided to the prisoners. Seeking amnesty for all the Maoist detainees and prisoners of conscience being held across the country to pave the way for building a new Nepal, 61 prisoners of conscience held in the district prison have been staging an agitation since June 3.

A prisoner of conscience at the prison, Chandeshwor Baitha, said a phasewise agitation would be launched from June 15 if their demand was not met. Another Maoist detainee Lila Prasad Shah accused the seven political parties of forgetting the spirit of Janaandolan. Jailor Ganesh Kumar Adhikari said the authority concerned has been informed about the prisoners’ agitation. Fifteen prisoners of conscience were released from the prison on May 23. The jail administration said other prisoners cannot be freed as they are being imprisoned on the charges of murder and cases relating to arms and ammunition.
