Jajarkot couple sentenced life imprisonment for murder
JAJARKOT: The Jajarkot District Court has sentenced a man and his wife to lifetime imprisonment with confiscation of all their properties in a murder case.
A bench led by District Judge Lila Raj Adhikari, on Sunday incriminated Buddhi Bahadur Khatri and his wife, Sharmila Bali Khatri, for killing the former's mother, Deumi Khatri, in Lekham area of Sakla-1.
According to police, the couple had been pressuring Deumi to transfer the land property ownership to their name.
During the trial, Buddhi had confessed to killing his mother under pressure from his wife. As per his statement, they had attacked Deumi with an axe while she was asleep on August 6.
They had buried the body in a field near their house to cover the crime and rumoured in the village that his mother had gone missing. They even filed a disappearance report with the police.
The couple were arrested three weeks after the day of murder.
Deumi had refused to transfer the ownership in their names without the consent of her grandchildren from her eldest son.
Meanwhile, Sharmila had been threatening to jump off a cliff if he failed to get the ownership of the land or kill his mother.
Buddhi has been sent to the Jajarkot Prison while Sharmila with her two-and-half-year-old son has been sent to the Bardiya Prison, informed Acting Chief of the Jajarkot District Police Office, Hikmat Bahadur Bohara.
