Jajarkot school kids urge local reps to address their concerns

Jajarkot, July 5

Students from different schools in Jajarkot district called on the newly elected local level representatives to ensure their rights and address their concerns, at an interaction in Khalanga, today.

The school children made the call while participating in a discussion programme also attended by newly elected local level representatives.

The programme was organised by District Child Welfare Committee, Jajarkot.

The participants discussed a range of issues, including nutrition, children’s involvement in development projects, child rights, among other topics.

Chief District Officer Krishna Chandra Poudel and civil society member Rajendra Bikram Shah presented their worksheets at the function.

Students from different schools voiced their concerns on the occasion.

Dinesh Khadka from Chhedagard Municipality stressed the need of children’s involvement in development planning process in the district.

Sapana BK from Bheri Municipality said the food the students were provided was sub-standard and drew the concerned body’s attention to the issue.

Hira Khadka from Junichande Rural Municipality said stakeholders had not done enough to stop child marriage and child labour problems in the district.

Putting forth his view, Bheri Municipality Mayor Chandra Prakash Gharti said he would take initiatives to address children’s concerns in the plan and policies of the municipality.

Deputy Mayor of Tribeni Municipality Bal Kumari Basnet assured that he would take steps to protect children’s rights.
