Janakpur remains shut for third day

Janakpurdham, September 9:

Janakpur town in Dhanusha district remained closed for the third consecutive day today due to a bandh called by the Janakpur Chambers of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) to demand security and action against culprits terrorising the trade sector and people.

Hotels, fruits and sweets shops, pan shops, petty trade establishments all have closed down at the call of the JCCI. Today at noon, traders staged a motorcycle rally from Zero Mile and went around the town for half an hour. They also shouted slogans against the local administration and the Maoists.

Though the JCCI had not forced the closure of educational institutions or transport services, the Bhagyanath Gupta breakaway faction of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) has shut down all educational institutions. Transport services also continue to remain stalled because the JTTM-Jwala Singh and Madhesi Mukti Tigers’ bandhs are still going on though the Dalit Janajati Party has called off its bandh programme.
