Janakpur shut down
JANAKPURDHAM: Supporters of suspended parliamentarian Sanjaya Kumar Shah’s spouse Rangila Devi Shah have enforced a shutdown in Janakpur on Friday.
The supporters claim that police mistreated Rangila Devi, who was arrested while she
was staging hunger-strike at Janakpur Chowk, demanding investigation into a case in which her husband has been accused of involvement in the murder of media entrepreneur Arun Singhaniya.
The transport services, academic institutions, and other industries in Janakpur were adversely affected due to the shutdown.
According to the District Police Office, Rangila Devi was taken to the Zonal Hospital after her health started deteriorating during the protest.
She has been staging protest since April 14. Rangila Devi, however, has accused the police of manhandling her.
Meanwhile, Shivashankar Shah, chairman of Janakpur Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, has been staging hunger-strike at Janakpur Chowk, protesting police’s inhumane behaviour towards the deceased’s wife Rangila Devi.
