Janakpur windstorm claims two lives

DHANUSHA: Two people lost their lives in the Wednesday windstorm that affected most of Janakpur.

One of the deceased, 58-year-old Dhukhidas Tatma, a resident of Kshireshwar Municipalty -5, died on spot as a roof-log from the hut he was sleeping under fell on his head, seriously injuring him, while the debris asphyxiated him. Tatma was a care-taker of the fish-pond where the hut he died in stood, said Inspector Naresh Kumar Singh of the Area Police Office.

Likewise, the police informed that 35-year old Phoolbadan Devi Mahara was also killed in the windstorm. She was at the local forest collecting woods when the a tree branch fell on her, injuring her fatally.

The storm also badly damaged the many welcome-gates installed at various spots across the city for the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A slight delay was also caused in completing the stage being prepared for Modi’s civic reception. ‘Although slight damaged have been incurred, they have been taken care of and the stage will be ready in time,” Province 2 Physical Infrastructure Minister Jitendra Sonal said.
