Jantedunga Rural Municipality schools to use English as medium of instruction

Khotang, April 20

Jantedhunga Rural Municipality in Khotang district is preparing to use English as a language of instruction in all public schools from the new academic session.

The rural municipality devised the idea of imparting education in English in Grade I to attract more students to public schools. A large number of students opt for private schools due to lack of quality education in public schools.

Education committee coordinator of the rural municipality Bidurman Rai said they were preparing to run classes in all the 36 public schools of the rural municipality in coordination with Kathmandu-based Rato Bangla School.

The rural municipality has signed an agreement for the same with Rato Bangla School for the upcoming three years.

All the public schools which were conducting classes in Nepali language are preparing to run the classes using English as a language of instruction by managing textbooks in English. The head teachers of schools  and their management committees have expressed their commitment for the same.

“The schools will gradually impart education up to Grade X in English,” said the rural municipality source.
