JC to nominate new CJ

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Judicial Council held here on Sunday decided to recommend to the Constitutional Council the name of eligible justice of the Supreme Court to succeed Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha, who retires in four weeks.

As per Article 129 (3) of the constitution, a justice who has served for at least three years in the Supreme Court shall be eligible for being appointed as the chief justice.

Senior-most justice of the SC Sushila Karki is likely to be nominated the new chief justice.
