KATHMANDU, JUNE 26

A highly-emotional Minister of Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri today held a press conference after she decided to leave the Sher Bahadur Deuba government, abiding by her party's decision.

The CPN (Unified Socialist) had on June 5 decided to recall Jhakri and three other party ministers from the Cabinet.

A ministry official read out details of some of the major policy decisions and works that Jhakri did during her tenure. Jhakri had a hard time maintaining her composure as her eyes kept welling up during the press conference. While responding to a mediaperson's query, she said, "Ask a question that makes me angry so that I can respond."

When a journalist asked why she took so many days to respond to the party's decision to recall her, Jhakri said she had told party Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal that if the party wanted to recall ministers, it should inform them in advance so that they could prepare themselves and quit the Cabinet.

"But I came to know from media that the CPN (US) had recalled us from the Cabinet," Jhakri said. When in the end she couldn't hold her tears back, she said she was an emotional person. "The day I attend funeral at Aryaghat, I am so disturbed that I avoid returning home for hours," she added.
