Joint pooja held in Shaileshwori
Silgadhi (Doti), October 19:
Dalits and non-Dalits today held collective pooja in Doti’s famous Shaileshwori temple for the first time.
Non-Dalits organised a formal programme followed by pooja. Speaking on the occasion, local Sitaram Shrestha said the dispute centered on entry into the temple is ended and all races and castes can now offer pooja there.
Dharma BK of Dalits Struggle Committee said they sought entry into Shaileshwori temple to have freedom from social discrimination and added, “The agitation is launched to fight back at the discrimination.” He thanked for political parties, civil society, journalists and nongovernment organisations who rendered support to the dalits’ agitation.
Secretary in Shaileshwori development committee, Netra Man Shrestha regretted for the misbehavior against Dalits.
Priest in the temple, Narayan Bhatta accepted the offerings of Dalits and non-dalits to the temple.
