Journalist killed in Chitwan road accident
CHITWAN: A journalist died in a road accident in Ratnanagar Municipality-10 of Chitwan district today.
The deceased has been identified as Pravin Paudel (27) of Shreenagar Tole in Baglung Municipality-2 of Baglung district, who had been residing in Bharatpur-9. Paudel was working as a cameraman for AP1 television channel.
According to Chitwan District Police Office, a truck (Na 2 Kha 2166) heading towards Tandi from Narayangadh rammed the scooter (Ba 61 Pa 921) Paudel was riding from behind fatally injuring him, at Nipani Chok, at around 11:15 am today.
According to witnesses, the truck jerked the two-wheeler rider and continued moving forward on the road for about 100 metres until the locals gathered.
Critically injured Paudel was rushed to Bharatpur Hospital where he succumbed to injuries at 1:05 pm today.
The incident occurred while he was heading to Sauraha from Bharatpur to report the 15th Chitwan Elephant Festival.
Meanwhile, Ratnanagar-based Area Police Office (APO) has impounded the truck and arrested its driver for investigation into the incident.
Paudel is survived by his mother, brother, sister-in-law and two elder sisters.
Federation of Nepali Journalists, Chitwan Chapter has expressed grief over the untimely demise of the journalist, and postponed its ethics awareness programme scheduled for today, FJN Chitwan Chair Radheshyam Khatiwada shared.
