JHAPA: Journalists based in Jhapa today presented a gun and a pen to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal through the Chief District Officer. The journos' symbolic gesture comes in the wake of mounting threats against press freedom and murder of mediapersons in the country.

CDO Kumar Bahadur Shrestha promised that he would send the gifts and the memorandum to the PM and assured that he would carry out every possible action for the security of the journalists in the district.

Prior to sending those gifts to the PM, the journalists rallied around Chandragadhi Bazaar chanting slogans to let them live and write. They also demanded the resignation of the Home Minister and submitted a memorandum urging the authority to end the culture of violence and creating an environment for journalists to work without fear.
