Juvenile gets 6 years and 8 months in jail for raping adolescent girl
UDAYAPUR: The District Court, Udayapur today sentenced a juvenile to six years and eight months in prison in connection to the rape of an adolescent girl.
The single bench of District Judge Deepak Khanal convicted the juvenile of raping a 17-year-old girl and handed him the imprisonment sentence along with a fine of Rs 10,000 as compensation for the victim's family.
The 17-year-old boy had been taken into custody at a correctional home in Biratnagar for prosecution.
According to registrar at the court, Raj Kumar Acharya, the convicted boy will not be lodged in prison as he is a minor but will be kept in the correctional home till he attains the age of 19, and then will be transferred to prison. He informed that the 10-year imprisonment term was dropped to six years and eight months.
The new penal code envisions sending persons below the age of 18 to child correctional homes, and deducting the imprisonment term by one-third.
The convict had kidnapped the girl on November 8, 2018, and repeatedly raped her for three days. Police arrested him after the girl narrated her ordeal to her family members who filed an FIR with Udayapur District Police Office, on November 10.
Earlier, the same court, on December 6, 2018, had ordered to send the arrestee to a juvenile home for the prosecution.
