Kailali VDC secys allowed to relocate

Dhangadhi, September 26

Village secretaries in Kailali will be allowed to carry out their duties from the district headquarters for the time being in view of the ongoing unrest at Tikapur and Dhangadhi.

According to Acting Local Development Officer Yogendra Chand, a meeting of the district security committee took a decision to this effect in view of security threat to the secretaries after two VDC offices were set on fire over a week ago.

“As the agitators burnt VDC offices and threatened the secretaries, we have decided to allow secretaries to stay in the headquarters itself,” said Chand. As per the decision, secretaries of Ratanpur, Pawera, Hasuliya, Gadariya, Udasipur, Masuriya, Chaumala, Urma, Basauti and Phulbari will officiate from Dhangadhi-based District Development Committee office, and secretaries of Narayanpur, Dhansinghpur, Thapapur, Munuwa, Durgauli, Patharaiya, Janakinagar, Bauniyan, Kotatulsipur and Dododhara will be carrying out their duties from Tikapur.

In Joshipur, the VDC secretary will operate from his own duty station.

Last Tuesday night, agitators had set ablaze the VDC offices of Pawera and Bauniya VDCs. A couple of rooms in the two-storey house of Pawera VDC office were completely destroyed in the incident. Similarly, most of other VDC offices in the plains have failed to run services due to the month-long agitation of the Tharuhat/Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee, Kailali.
