Kaligandaki to be tapped for 163-MW hydel power
MYAGDI: Hydro Solutions Kathmandu is planning to generate 163 MW electricity from the Kaligandaki River at Narchyang Village Development Committe of Myagdi district.
“Upon the completion, the Kaligandaki Gorge Hydroelectricity Project will be the biggest project in the country,” informed Kumar Pandey, technology chief of the Hydro Solutions.
According to Pandey necessary studies and research into the construction of the project had already been completed.
If the construction work of the project, which lies on the border of Myagdi and Mustang districts, goes as planned, we might be able to begin generating electricity and distributing it within the next five years.”
In order to expedite the construction, two committees have also been formed at the local level, he added.
“The stakeholders, members of civil society and political parties of Myagdi district should create investment-friendly atmosphere for the construction of the project as it will surely help for the economic and social transformation of the locals,” Madhu Khaniya, senior officer of Hydro Solutions, said.
“There should be cordial and friendly relation between the locals and concerned bodies for the smooth construction of the project,” Sudarshan Kumar Shrestha, coordinator of Myagdi chapter of civil society said.
