Kamaiyas for education
TIKAPUR:
The freed Kamaiyas living in a temporary camp near Tikapur say they are determined to ensure good education for their children. Although they are illiterate, they say they will enroll their children at schools.
Said Ramsharan Chaudhari, a freed Kamaiya, “Though I did not get a chance to study as I had to work for my landlord, I will see to it that my children get education. “We knew how important education is only after we were freed from servitude.”
Some NGOs are giving them funds to make the Kamaiyas self-reliant and encouraging them to send children to schools.
