Kanchanpur FNJ memo to Sitaula
Mahendranagar, July 16:
The Kanchanpur chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists today sent a memorandum to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula through the chief district officer (CDO) urging him to find out what actually had happened to the Kanchanpur FNJ’s former vice-chairman Prakash Thakuri.
A FNJ team led by central vice-chairman DR Pant met Kanchanpur CDO Sharada Bhakta Poudel and expressed concern over Thakuri’s condition. “Thakuri was abducted 12 days ago and mystery shrouds the whole matter,” Pand said. A group calling itself National Republican Army Nepal has claimed to have murdered Thakuri.
“We believe that a free press has a significant role in holding the CA polls in a free and fearless atmosphere. But, such insecurity faced by mediapersons clearly indicates bad
days ahead,” the memorandum adds. It was
unfortunate that mediapersons have failed to enjoy security even after the revival of democracy, it stated, demanding an independent probe into Thakuri’s abduction.
