'Martyr' Govinda Gautam cremated with state honours

DHANGADHI: Govinda Gautam, who was killed in an alleged firing by the Indian border security personnel and declared 'martyr' by the Government of Nepal, was cremated on the bank of Doda River in Kanchanpur on Sunday with full state honours.

Hundreds of people took part in the funeral procession.

As per the government, a team of Nepal Police fired 11 shots in air in felicitation of the martyr before the martyr’s 72-year-old father Khemlal Gautam lit the funeral pyre.

General people and cadres of various political parties from Kanchanpur and Kailali districts took part in the funeral procession, which started from the Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadhi.

His body was kept at the hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the District Administration Office today lifted a prohibitory order in Punarbas, where the fatal incident took place on Thursday, after situation eased, according CDO Manohar Prasad Khanal.
