Kapilvastu hit hard by strike
Kapilvastu, October 17:
The strike called by cadres of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) affected normal life in the district today.
TMDP activists had called the strike to protest the killing of its party cadres last night. Educational institutions, transportation, industries and market areas in Taulihawa, Pakadi, Lawani, Krishnanagar, Chandrauta and Bahadurgunj remained close throughout the day. Collection of revenue in Krishnanagar and Maryadapur customs offices was also affected.
“The strike remained peaceful. No untoward incident occurred during the strike,” TMDP district chairman Ramdas Gupta said.
An unidentified gang had shot dead TMDP district committee member Sairullah Musalman and party cadre Ram Prasad Kurmi at Ganeshpur yesterday.
Protesting the killings, TMDP chairman Mahanta Thakur has asked the government to maintain
law and order.
