Karnali floats employment policy

Surkhet, February 13

The government in Karnali Province, taking a leaf from the book of the national government, has floated its own employment policy.

The policy titled Labour and Employment Promotion Policy-2075 passed by the Council of Ministers of the provincial government envisions employment for at least 100 days for the active population in the province.

The provincial government also looks to run a Karnali Employment Plan as per its strategy to identify and promote employment opportunities. As a first step towards implementation of the plan, the government will first prepare an inventory of the unemployed.

“Once the details of the unemployed are collected, the government will ensure employment to them, at least for 100 days,” said Minister of Social Development Dal Rawal, adding that the provincial government will make sure that the provincial government’s policy doesn’t overlap with the central government’s Prime Minister Employment Plan.

The provincial government looks forward to providing productive, dignified and safe employment environment for all citizens in the province to produce skilled manpower as per the demand of the labour market.

Further, the policy also aims to eliminate child labour, bonded labour and forced labour and increase access of women and marginalised communities to employment, besides promoting industries based on local resources, skills and labour and providing necessary facilities and concessions to industries that contribute significantly by providing employment.

The policy also aims to set up technical and commercial training centres in the hills and mountains.
