Kaski administration frees 4 political prisoners

Pokhara, February 23:

Local administration today released four of the eight political cadres in the presence of Kaski district court officials.

Those released are president of the Nepal Tarun Dal, Kaski, Hari KC, former central member of the Tarun Dal, Mukti KC, secretary of the Tarun Dal, Kaski, constituency no. 2, Tek Bahadur KC and Nepali Congress district executive committee member Hari Lamichhane.

The four other political detainees who are yet to be released are NC Kaski’s president Yagya Bahadur Thapa, former state minister Mahadev Gurung, Kaski, NC secretary, Poshnath Sharma and central council member of the Tarun Dal, Rishi Kafle.

The eight political prisoners spent a night in the waiting room of the prison yesterday stating that the local administration has meted out inhuman treatment to them, said president of the Tarun Dal Kaski, Hari KC.

They were detained in the Armed Police Force training college located in Lampatan of Pokhara from the past one month and transferred to the Kaski prison yesterday evening.

They complained that the local administration has detained them in a narrow and dirty cell without any facility.

Chief district officer Madhav Raj Regmi said the political prisoners were given good food and that they should not expect high quality food and mineral water.
