Kaski DAO issues citizenship through mother’s name
Pokhara, May 25
After a long ordeal, Roshan Gurung of Pokhara has finally obtained citizenship certificate on the basis of his mother’s name.
Kaski District Administration Office issued the national identity through his mother Kanya Kumari Gurung’s name on Thursday.
The certificate has administrative officer Rishiraj Acharya’s signature on it.
“As I did not have citizenship card earlier, it had created lots of problems, but that won’t happen now on,” said the 18-year-old. “I’m currently taking Japanese language classes. I want to go to Japan to earn money in the future,” said Gurung.
Roshan had filed a writ at the High Court of Pokhara against the District Administration Office, in November last year, demanding that he be granted a citizenship certificate on the basis of his mother’s name.
Hearing on the writ, the high court had issued a mandamus in the District Administration Office’s name on April 17.
A joint bench of judges Jivanhari Adhikari and Binod Prasad Sharma had issued the order in Gurung’s favour.
Citing the disappearance of his father, Gurung in October 2017 had first approached the DAO for citizenship certificate on the basis of his mother’s name.
The administration back then had turned down his application citing lack of citizenship certificate of his father.
