ILAM: Kerosene smuggling has increased in areas bordering India in Ilam district in recent past due to the lax monitoring by the border customs office. Large quantity of kerosene is smuggled into the district from India through the porous border and is sold in the local market. According to locals, thousands of litres of kerosene is smuggled in to the district by the petty traders in this way from the Indian towns of Darjeeling, Mirik, Sukiya Pokhari etc in India. —
