Khotang to form nine-member DCC

The first meeting of District Coordination Committee, Khotang, decided to form a nine-member committee through voting yesterday evening.

Following the decision, District Election Office, Khotang also unveiled the election schedule of the DCC. A total of 20 candidates, including the chiefs and deputy chiefs of two municipalities and eight rural municipalities can cast their votes to elect the DCC members in the election to be held on August 4.

As per the schedule, voters’ names will be made public on July 30 while on August 1 names of the election candidates will be published. Similarly, election symbol will be given to the candidates on August 2 and election will be held on August 4 from 8:00am to 6:00pm, according to Charindra Prasad Acharya, first class non-gazetted officer at District Election Office, Khotang.

All the rights related to holding the election are given to the chief election officer.

The CPN-UML has 12 out of 20 votes for the DCC while the Nepali Congress has seven and the CPN-Maoist Centre has one vote. The CPN-UML has recommended Babi Chamling as DCC chairperson and Goma Khatri as deputy chair.
