Khotang plunged in darkness

KHOTANG: Regular electricity service has been obstructed in Khotang after a flood triggered by incessant rainfall on Saturday night swept away three micro-hydro projects at Khidi and Temma VDCs of the district.

The 17KW Tawakhola III Micro Hydro Project, 9.5 KW Khobukhola Hydro Project at Khidi, and nine KW Sanchahira Small Hydro Project at Temma were swept away by the flood.

The locals had been operating the hydro projects with the grants from donor agencies in wards 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of Khidi VDC. Power supply has also been halted in Ward No 9 of Mattim VDC and Ward no 9 of Chhitapokhari VDC.

“Electricity supply to more than 243 houses of different VDCs in the district has been halted,” informed Treasurer of the project Yubraj Katwal.

As many as 75 households have been living in the dark after the project was destroyed in Khobukhola.

Pancha Kumar Rai of Temma VDC said that 400 locals were living in the dark after the projects were destroyed.

Lalit Kumar Rai of Mewakhola Hydro Project, said that property worth more than four million rupees was destroyed by the flood that swept away the under-construction Mewakhola Hydro Project. He added that machines, sand, gravel, and rods were swept away.
