The 60th Manaslu Mountain Ascent Day was marked yesterday in Ghalekharka of Sardikhola VDC in Kaski.

The first ever summit of the eighth tallest mountain (8,163 metres) in the world, also known as ‘killer mountain’, was commemorated at the special initiative of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Association Pokhara.

To celebrate the occasion, a group of over 30 tourism entrepreneurs had trekked to Ghalekharka from Pokhara. Tourism entrepreneurs and locals jointly commemorated the ascent of the killer mountain.

Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu of a Japanese expedition team had scaled Manaslu for first time on May 9, 1956.

Programme Coordinator Suresh Lamsal said they had marked the Mountain Day among local folks with a view to promoting awareness about tourism.

Different cultural activities were shown and information on Manaslu was presented at the programme, .

Ram Chandra Sharma, TAAN Western Regional Association Pokhara chairman said the goal of the programme was to expand and promote tourism in the village.
