KJWP bandh affects Udayapur schools

GAIGHAT: Schools in the eastern part of the district today remained shut due to a strike called by the Kirat Janawadi Workers Party.

A teacher said that activists of the KJWP had called an indefinite transportation and education institutions bandh demanding release of their cadre, who was detained by the police.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, he said that cadres of the armed outfit had warned against opening the schools over the telephone.

However, the outfit withdrew the bandh this evening.

Private and government schools in Rampur, Basaha, Mainamaini, Chaudandi and Babala areas remained shut today.

However, transportation services resumed after the police escorted vehicles in the areas.

District Superintendent of Police Manoj Yadav said, ''We have beefed up security to avert any untoward incident.'' The KJWP had imposed an indefinite bandh demanding release of the outfit's area in-charge Jeevan Rai alias Dharti, who was detained by the police on the charge of collecting donations with the members of community forest users committee.
