Koirala wants NC, NC (D) unity
Biratnagar, February 20:
Nepali Congress chairman Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the unity between the two Nepali Congress parties is needed to intensify the current agitation. Talking to cadres in Biratnagar today, Koirala said, “I wish for unity between the two Congress parties — Nepali Congress and Nepali Congress (Democratic). Talks on uniting the two parties will begin once I return to Kathmandu.”
Remarks made by Koirala have pleased the party cadres. Some days back, former prime minister and leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai had called for the unification of the two parties. “I am not against the party unity,” Koirala said, adding: Following his release, Sher Bahadur Deuba had come to see. We had discussed the issue during that time.”
Party cadres too have said party unity will help intensify the agitation, Koirala said. Regarding the King’s offer to the parties for talks, Koirala said he would make comments on the topic only after holding talks with other parties.
Preferring not to comment on the offer, Koirala said: “I will comment on the offer only after talking it out with the parties.”
The NC chairman, who had come to Biratnagar on Wednesday, returned to the capital today.
