KATHMANDU, MARCH 24

All three stations of the Makawanpur-based Kulekhani Hydropower Project are now operating at full capacity.

According to the project, the stations have been running at maximum output since the onset of the dry season. Kulekhani I currently generates 60 megawatts (MW) of electricity, while Kulekhani II and III produce 32 MW and 14 MW, respectively, Taradatta Bhatta, Chief of Kulekhani I, confirmed. The project follows a run-of-river model.

At present, power generation occurs for 14 to 16 hours daily, although the project has the capacity for 24-hour production depending on demand.

During the first eight months of the current fiscal year (July 16, 2024 – March 13, 2025), Kulekhani I generated 81,209 megawatt-hours of electricity-more than double the 34,388 megawatt-hours produced during the same period last year.
